FUNimation pulls several seasons digitally

It is unknown as to why this has happened, however, it would appear that FUNimation has pulled several seasons/episodes from across many different digital storefronts. Thanks to a TIP off from Gammalad on Youtube, it came to my attention and I have done research, and have come to the following:

On Google Play and Itunes, the entire series has been pulled. Searching CASE CLOSED on either store turns up nothing:

On Amazon Video, every season but Season 5 is available:

On Xbox Live and Playstation Network, all 5 seasons are still available:

I am not sure what this means. Could FUNimation be losing the license to Case Closed? Or is it some system error? I have contacted both Alison Viktorin (Conan's VA) and FUNImation for an answer and hopefully I will have one soon.

Case Closed Episode 3: Beware of idols - REVIEW (Finally)

Episode Number: Episode 3 - Beware of idols!
Airdate: May 26th, 2004
Season: 1
Featured Characters: Conan, Rachel, Richard, Yoko

Yea I know, its been a bit and now you are wondering if I gave up on the blog. No, I got a new computer. Turns out that E machines is an AWFUL brand and so my PC died, and I lose everything. No joke. The motherboard caught fire and fried my hard drive too, so I even lost my files for the Case Closed Visual Novel. Ugh... so yea, that will be delayed until further notice! So... lets get on with the review. Also, as always, my reviews contain full spoilers, so if you choose to read on, don't blame me if I spoil it for you if you haven't watched this CC yet.

In this episode, a pop idol, Yoko Okino, arrives unexpectedly at Richards office requesting help. Turns out, a man is following her and breaking into her home, which is scaring Yoko to no end. They all go to her apartment and they come to the horrific (But not surprising), discovery of a body. Instantly, all eyes are on Yoko, where everyone, besides Richard (Due to him being the "Ladies Man" he is, he likes Yoko), and the investigation starts.
Eventually they find an earring under the couch and they find out it is not Yoko's, but instead, Yuko's, which is Yoko's rival.

Yuko arrives and now people start to think it was her, especially Richard. However, Conan still thinks different.
Eventually, Conan knocks Richard out and tells everyone using Richards voice the truth. Turns out, Yuko and Yoko look alike from the backside, and because of this, the man who was dead, actually attacked Yuko because he thought she was Yoko. Being rejected, he committed suicide, but purposely made it look like murder. So this means it was suicide, and everything was solved.

Later on, Rachel is walking Conan home and gets upset, worrying about the missing Jimmy, as she always will. (Curse you Jimmy!)

This episode was actually better than the previous two. It had an unexpected conclusion rather than the usual murdercase solved ending, and was actually a well planned suicide that was intended to look like murder.
As usual, leave your thoughts in the comments and I will attempt to get back to you! More reviews should be posted soon, as well as information about the delay of Case Closed Files.

Will Funimation dub more Case Closed? (Answer)

I have seen alot of people asking this and the questions never do stop... so I will post a screencap of Funimation's exact answer, just for clarification:

I wan't more CC, but FUNI said "Currently" there are no plans... so yea.

Case Closed: The Mirapolis Investigation - REVIEW (SPOILER FREE)

Please note that this review will be SPOILER FREE, since it is more "obscure". I want to give people an oppourtunity to actually play the game themselves, so instead of spoiling the story, I will only reveal slight tidbits of information.

The One and Only "Case Closed" game, The Mirapolis Investigation was released in the summer of 2009 only in Europe, and only on the Nintendo Wii console. The game takes Conan and friends to a place called The Mirapolis. The game plays similar to the previous point and click "Detective Conan" games that were released in Japan, and everything is rendered in 3D. Some parts of the game also play as a visual novel with 3D animated backgrounds.

NAME: The Mirapolis Investigation
YEAR: 2009
PLATFORM: Wii
REGION: EU/JP
PLAYERS: 1
CORRESPONDING SEASON: N/A

This game is the only Case Closed game to be released, as all of the other Conan games have never been English dubbed besides this one (And a very, very old GBC one in the 90's).
Despite the game not being affiliated with FUNImation entertainment, all voice talents from the English dubbed Anime returned.

One of the many things I hate about this game, which may seem like such a small thing, is Vi Graythrorn's (Haibara) name. In the game, they decided to use her name from the Manga rather than the Anime Movies (Vi only appeared in the movies, as CC was cancelled a season short of her Anime introduction). Her name in the game and manga is Anita Hailey, which yes, is more Americanized than Vi Graythorn, but I preferred Vi, because the name comes from FUNImation, and I prefer the Anime series to the Manga, IMO. Yes, this seems like a very small thing, and it is, but it breaks storyline for me when they constantly call her Anita.
Another problem with the game is the very bad animations. Yes, it is a budget title, and yes, we are lucky at all to be getting an english dubbed CC game. However, the animations are painfully awful, and not to mention that almost every ingame character model actually looks like their Anime counterparts, something is up with Conan's face ingame. Is it his glasses? No idea. It looks awkward. Additionally, when characters engage in conversation with NPC's, they simply stand looking forward with no facial expressions whatsoever, as seen below.

A few other minor problems are the plot inconsistencies. The plot jumps around from one place to another, and they first talk about one thing, and then another.

More problems occur with the very bad control scheme. Since you are forced to use the awful Wii controller in the style of a TV remote, as you can imagine for a 3D platform/action adventure game, this is a bad thing. Controlling Conan is a pain. If you could use a classic Wii controller, or at very least this came to PS3 and 360 with analog sticks, it wouldn't have been a problem.

I do recommend that hardcore Case Closed fans check this game out if you can. Sadly, if you don't have access to a Europe Region console, or at least a region free modded Wii, you are out of luck, because the North American port of this game was to be published by Electronic Arts in 2010 (According to IGN.com), but nothing ever came of the port.  It is assumed that it was cancelled due to Funimation ending the dub. Who knows?  If you can play it, I suggest you check it out. The plot was poor though, and the overall experience is not really rewarding, but if you are finished watching the Anime and Movies and just want more Conan, this would be something you can get into.

POLL: What form of Case Closed media do you like?

I am just a little curious! What do you prefer? I prefer the Anime, because unlike the Manga, it is atmospheric and more detailed!

Announcement: Detective Conan Reviews

I know, I know. I said originally that I would be keeping this blog focused specifically on Case Closed. However, eventually, I will finish reviewing all the episodes of the english dub and quite possibly, FUNI still would not of dubbed more episodes, which will cause this blog to run dry.

To prevent that, I am going to expand the canvas a little bit and start reviewing Detective Conan episodes.
This will begin starting next season, Season 24, which will probably begin airing this fall in Japan.

Until then, I will be reviewing only Case Closed related material.

ALSO, a feature update for the blog will be coming soon, which will be a page where you can access archived reviews and news updates at a later date.

ALSO, a quick peek at my upcoming reviews, which are all currently in draft stage and being written, and will be published in this order on the following dates:

1. Case Closed Episode 3    - 3/11/14
2. Case Closed Episode 4    - 3/12/14
3. Case Closed: The Mirapolis Investigation - Wii (Game)   - 3/13/14
4. Case Closed Episode 5 - 3/14/14
5. Case Closed: The 14th Target (Movie)   3/15/14
Planned, but unknown dates:
6. Case Closed Episode 6 - TBA
7. Case Closed Episode 7 - TBA
8. Case Closed Episode 8 - TBA

Additionally, my Case Closed Visual Novel series is being revived. I had released 1 episode last year but abandoned the project. I am currently restarting the project, but with a catch:
It will not follow the 130 FUNimation episodes. Why? Because if you want to know of those, you can simply watch them. I would like to encourage people to buy the episodes they dubbed, so that is why I will not be making VN games based on the 130 dubbed episodes. The VN series will cover Episodes 131 (124 by Japanese number) and up.

Thanks for reading my blog fellow Conies!

Case Closed Episode 2: The Kidnapped Debutante - REVIEW

Episode Number: Episode 2 - The Kidnapped Debutante
Airdate: May 25th, 2004
Season: 1
Featured Characters: Conan, Rachel, Richard

A few days ago, I reviewed the First Episode, and now I am reviewing the next episode, Episode 2: The Kidnapped Debutante, which originally aired in Japan on January 15th, 1996, and later aired in the United States on May 25th, 2004.

In this episode, Jimmy wakes up and discovers he survived. However, police are searching the area and find him, and after they start to make him uncomfortable calling him "Little Boy" and "Kid", Jimmy runs away and finds his way into the city. After tripping and getting up, he sees his reflection in a window and discovers he has shrunk back into his body from when he was 7 years old. He then runs to Dr.Agasa's home, to where he convinces him he is Jimmy and they come up with an alias to protect him, and they use Conan, named after Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Next, Rachel enters the house and Agasa lies and tells her that Jimmy had a case, and that Conan needs a place to live. Rachel takes him home and a case pops up.

It turns out that a little girl was kidnapped by a man in black. Thinking he has a lead on the people who shrunk him, Conan gets into the Taxi Cab with Richard and Rachel and goes along. They get to a mansion of a rich business man and he says his daughter was kidnapped. Later they discover the kidnapping was a hoax but later they discover that she was kidnapped again. Conan and a dog track her down to a shed at a school, and get attacked by the kidnapper. Just when the kidnapper is about to kill Conan, Rachel thankfully intervenes and knocks the culprit out. He is arrested, and the little girl is taken home.

After, Rachel asks Richard if Conan could stay, and after a few seconds of thinking, he says its fine if he does. The episode then ends. In the epilogue, Conan introduces himself to his classmates at an elementary school and says to himself: "Please just be a dream."

This episode is a pretty good episode. Good action and a plot twist. Also with every CC viewer, it is probably the most memorable, especially if you watched Case Closed on Adult Swim from 2004-2005. Case Closed had been cancelled after the 50th Episode aired on August 16th, 2004 due to low ratings, however, Adult Swim continued to air re runs until March 2005, and a they constantly kept replaying the first and second episode, so this episode is a memorable one. I can actually remember every single line. Hmm...

Case Closed: The Complete Series?

Earlier today I received an email from a viewer of my blog saying that he spotted the following on the Canada Amazon Store. Apparently it is a Blu-Ray release of all 5 seasons packed on 2 BR discs in one box for the price of $59.99. (Pretty good price considering if you buy all 5 seasons on DVD from Funi it would cost $100 + Tax and shipping, all together).

It is a bit questionable though, so take it with a grain of salt. Why? First off, compared to the other season boxes, the box art seems very unprofessional. Second, this is FUNimation we are talking about. The price would be more like $100+ knowing them. Thirdly, some things seem a bit odd on the text side. Looks photo shopped to me. It may be real, but don't be sad if this never actually releases on May 1st.

But if it does, buy it. This is a considerably good deal to own all 5 seasons for that price. Sadly, if this is real, "The Complete Series" clearly means they are set in stone about not doing a future season. Oh, and its odd that they say "Complete Series", when it includes only the TV show. The 6 dubbed movies are missing.

Download the official OST now!

A few days ago when browsing my old IMAC G3 that I pulled out of my closet, I discovered I had the Case Closed Official soundtrack on my ITUNES player. You may be asking: "Wait... what? FUNI released an OST?" They sure did!

Here is a bit of a backstory:
It was summer 2010, Funimation quietly released the OST to the English Series on ITUNES for a whopping $20! I, being a Case Closed fan, snagged it up when I seen it. However, I noticed that a few days later, it was pulled for unknown reasons and to this day, it was never put back for sale, and many have not even heard of the OST at all! However, a few days ago, when digging in my closet, I found my old IMAC G3 and powered it on. When I went into ITUNES I discovered that I had the OST and remembered it. I transcoded it to work on other players that were not ITUNES Authorized and now it works fine. They are in MP3 format and I have the front and back art.

I hope you enjoy this! There are some rare tracks here, like the English version of "Happy Birthday" that was used at the end of the first movie, but in full form!

YOU CAN DOWNLOAD IT HERE!

Alison Viktorin and Colleen Chickenbeard reunited for Space Dandy

To be fair, this is not "New" news, but two of the leading voice actresses from Case Closed now star in Space Dandy, a show that premiered on Toonami in January.

Alison Viktorin, who played Conan, now plays CT, a small robot in Space Dandy, and sounds extremely like our little Conan.
Meanwhile, Colleen Chickenbeard plays Scarlet, an Inspector at the space center.

Both CT and Scarlet sound identical to Conan and Rachel. Watching this on adult swim made me nostalgic from 2004 when Case Closed originally premiered on that channel.

Oh, and did I mention both shows are produced by FUNimation?
You can catch it on Adult Swim or on FUNimation.com!

Case Closed Episode 1: The Big Shrink - REVIEW

Episode Number: Episode 1 - The Big Shrink
Airdate: May 24th, 2004
Season: 1
Featured Characters: Jimmy, Rachel

In the first episode of the series, Jimmy solves a murder case at a mansion, and then goes home. The next morning, an explosion sounds and Jimmy wakes up. Seeing that it was Dr. Agasa who had a failed experiment explode, Jimmy asks why he is doing it so early. They meet up inside Jimmy's library and Agasa tells him about his jetpack experiment. He flies his jetpack into a bookshelf and Jimmy helps him clean up.

Afterward, Jimmy heads to school and talks with Rachel about their date the next day. After talking with her, Rachel gets angry because he is putting work before her and she starts to kick at him, to where he accidentally puts his head under her skirt, to where she hits him with her satchel.

The episode gets more interesting that night when it shows a woman crying in the dark, with her tears dropping on large jewels. The next morning, Rachel and Jimmy are at Tropical Land Amusement Park and they both spend the day together. Later on, they are on the Mystery Coaster and a man is murdered when he is decapitated on the ride. Jimmy concludes the murderer was the victims ex girlfriend due to jealously, and they leave. Later on, Jimmy leaves Rachel to follow one of the men in black where he witnesses a deal going on. Jimmy is then attacked from behind by Melkior and fed a pill, which knocks him out.

The episode then ends soon after. In the epilogue after the credits, Jimmy wakes up to police searching him, and he discovers he is a little boy.

This was a pretty basic episode for the series. It introduced characters and showed how the series goes. Other than that, there wasn't much action in this episode, but that is ok, because it was the first episode. I personally don't like this episode as much as the next, because the next episode is where Jimmy discovers he is a little boy.

Tomorrow I will be doing Episode 2. To watch this episode, click here

Case Closed: The Time Bombed Skyscraper is the first Case Close feature film and was released on October 3rd, 2006 by FUNimation. The film follows Conan after he was invited, along with Rachel and Richard, to a famous architects home for a party.
When the trio arrive, they solve a small puzzle and get a tour of the Architect, Leo Joel's, gallery.
Later on, at Dr.Agasa's home, Conan sees on the news that C4 was stolen from a warehouse. Right after, a man calls using a voice changer and tells him that he has stolen bombs, causing Agasa and Conan to panic. He tells Conan to go to the park, and then he heads to the park to find Mitch, Amy and George and discovers they were given an RC Bomber Plane from a mysterious man, who called it a bomber. Quickly, Conan realizes that the plane is a bomb and tells the trio that there is a bomb in the plane. After that, the controller falls and breaks, preventing them from controlling the plane. It then crashes and explodes.

Right after, the man calls asking for Jimmy, to where Conan says he is not there. The man gives Conan information about the next bomb, saying it is under a tree in a plaza. Conan finds the bomb but an old lady takes it, due to a cat being hidden inside the box. Conan takes a bike and drives the bomb into a vacant area, and it explodes. However, Conan is caught in the blast and sent flying into a tree, where he is knocked out.

After that, Conan wakes up in a hospital with Amy, Mitch, George, Agasa, Richard and a doctor surrounding him. After Amy, Mitch and George leave, the bomber calls and informs everyone that he has placed bombs on the city metro line. Afterwards, the police call the metro offices and tells them of the bombs. After, the trains speed up to 60 miles per hour to make sure it is fast enough to pass bombs. Later on, they stop the trains after finding out the bombs are not on the trains. The bombs are then located and everything is safe.

Later on, Rachel arrives at the city center tower for her apparent date with Jimmy. Meanwhile, the detectives at the hospital are thinking the culprit is targeting Leo Joel's works, and they leave to his mansion. Once they arrive and inform him of the situation, Conan hides and calls Inspector Megure, and says that the bomber is Leo Joel. He explains why he wants to destroy them, and they arrest him. Leo then informs them that he plans to blow up the City Center Tower (Which appeared in second episode of Case Closed, which the victim mistakes the tower as a factory smoke stack.) , which causes everyone to panic, especially Richard and Conan, who know that Rachel is there.

The bombs explode sealing the exits and everyone heads to the tower. Once they all arrive, they see fire and smoke pouring out of the skyscraper, and Conan runs into the tower to the lobby area, and Rachel, in the lobby, comforts a crying woman. Conan calls Rachel as Jimmy and says he cannot enter the lobby because the door is blocked. He asks Rachel to search for something odd, to which she finds a large bomb in a bag. They decide to defuse the bomb themselves, much to Rachel's dismay. After cutting most of the wires, they discover 2 wires, Red and Blue, that are not in the disarming guide. Rachel then tells him happy birthday, because it turned 12AM, Jimmy's Birthday. Jimmy gives up, sits by the door with Rachel, and tells her to just cut one. He assures her that if it explodes, he will die too, as he is not leaving her side. However, Conan is then pulled out of there despite his cries for Rachel, and Rachel then cuts a wire, saying: "Goodbye... Jimmy."

She cuts the wire, and it is revealed she cut the right one, as the bomb timer stops. The survivors escape the tower and Rachel finds Conan. Conan tells her a fake story that Jimmy left, and asked why she chose the blue wire. She says: "I never cut the red one... because its the wire that connects Jimmy and Me" and the credits role.

My personal opinion is that this film is probably the best of the 6 Case Closed movies, with some great intense action moments and some tear jerker's (Rachel's words to Jimmy before she cuts the wire, for example.) The story line was also really good.
This movie is also very hard to find. FUNimation did a very limited production run compared to other movies, and there are very few (and all are expensive) copies on online retailers.

I was able to obtain a copy from Craigslist by some very, very shear luck.

This is a great movie and If you can find a copy, I think you would like it too if you are a true case closed fan.
